The reasons for choosing Australia.
First let me say that I choose Australia site unseen. I did so because I wanted all the candidates to be completely unbiased. I looked at healthcare, weather, crime, some of the laws concerning homosexuality and how people generally felt about homosexuality.
- CRIME
The crime rate in the entire country is lower than that of most US cities that I would chose to live in. No country is perfect, but the US is off the scale when it comes to crime. You can not turn on the TV these days and not hear about someone being murdered or shot.
- WAR
In the US we are way to busy making war. Our noses seem to be in everybodies business except ours. We spend way to much money on the military and not enough trying to feed the hungry or to educate our children.
- HEALTH CARE
The health care system in the US is just horrible. It would be nice to live in a country where the basic needs of population are taken care of. Even just an attempt to meet the needs of the people would be nice, but the government spends more time talking about health care than they do coming up with anything that might actually help the people.
- WEATHER
Weather was a big factor, I have lived in Oregon for six years now and as much as I love it, I am sick of the rain. After nine monthes of it a person starts to go a bit nuts. I love warm weather and I love the sun. I also like the change of seasons. So there you go.
- POPULATION
The area affectionately/hatefully known as Los Angeles has a population of approximately 16 million people as compared to all of Australia, 19 million people. The US has approximately 275 million people. Way to many for my taste.
- THE MILITARY
Australia allows gays in the military. What more do I need to say. I don't want to do another tour of duty, but if I did at least I could.
- IMMIGRATION
Gay Marriage may not be leagal yet, but at least an Australian citizen can sponser their gay partner. Can't do that here.
- IN GENERAL
No place is going to be perfect and to expect it, is unrealistic, but I need more out of my life than working just to survive and constant worry about the state of the nation. Most Americans work 40+ hours a week for horrid wages. They usually only get two weeks vacation out of each year and that is only if they can afford to take time off. Basically we work too hard for too little. I will not be a part of this rat race.
Now that all of that has been decided I need to decide where to live. For this I will travel and visit different cities. Although I am already sure I want to live in Sydney.
